A Black Feather, A poison pen...

piata versus the stick

interesting day, somewhat, was invited to the neighbor's house to celebrate their youngest daughter's first birthday and baptism.

luckly they didn't ask me to go to the baptism mass. i wasted enough of my life going to church and thinking that if there is a god that he was ever actually paying any attention to what goes on down here... but that's a rant for another day, dear readers

this invitation meant that i would get to man the camcorder during the piata smashing a few other kid-related moments

since there was an equal ratio of adults to kids and a fairly good number of people who are still there now, they hired a DJ for the event, same one i think they always use which means he's likely another friend of the family.

i don't mind some of the stuff he plays, i like the cumbias and the norteo and some of the tropical stuff, but i swear to jebus, what some of these people are into is pure fucking circus music. and don't even get me started on that banda shit...

and of course there is the other great annoyance of life in the spanish speaking world (and if you grew up with any exposure to Spanish language TV have ever seen any of the shows with that guy who was in a show called Chespirito where most of the actors were playing first-graders you'll now what i'm talking about) people who think that adults talking in a weird "little kid" voice is funny...two of the three major spanish radio morning shows do that, and they both suck...but i digress.

priceless moment (and i know that in the eyes of many this probably makes me a shit) came when the DJ, whose english is questionable at best starts spinning The Bloodhound Gang's "The Bad Touch" playing it all the way through and my brother, sister-in-law and myself being the only ones who realize how totally wrong this song is for an audience of churchgoers and little kids, and he plays it while the mother and the infant are cutting the cake.

i figure what they didn't know wouldn't offend them, but the incongruity of that song playing at a child's first birthday was enough that i had to use the image stabilizer on the camcorder because i was laughing hard enough to shake the picture

life can be funny in its own odd little ways
