A Black Feather, A poison pen... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- just some more shit from off the top of my head and the back of my mind A year ago at this time it was a sunday afternoon that found me sitting bored off of my ass in ny hospital bed waiting to be transferrred out of the ICU and into a regular room so that i could be discharged. A year later, i am sitting here in my house on a monday afternoon, rather bored, but more melancholy than anything. i was awake all last night. i fell asleep too late to wake up at a decent hour to make it to work which was just as well because when i woke up my stomach felt as though it had been used for kicking practice and for some reason, i ached all over from a series of more of those palpably weird but unremembered dreams. here's a snippet of one that i can remember to any coherent detail: I am walking home from work and for some reason it keeps getting hotter and hotter outside and as i walk, it becomes as if someone is tilting the ground i am walking on so that the otherwise level surfaces are now a steep incline and i am having to walk upward, by the time i lose the thread of the dream i'm exhausted i'm disappointed that the store no longer carries double edged razors openly in the shaving products section, probably to discourage the cutters, but then that's exactly why i wanted a pack. It's all i can do not to give in and buy a pack of smokes lately either, at this rate, who knows how long it will be before i lapse back full on into a hardcore jones for opiates. Reading some of Aristophanes' Lysistrata and so far, by the dick joke in first scene it seems like "Sex in the City" if the city in question was Athens at the height of the Classical/Hellenic period... I mean there is a certain sitcom contrivance to the idea... the women of Athens refuse their husbands unless and until their war with Sparta comes to an end but in the process of denying them, also set out to torture them by being as deliberately sexy as possible in the meantime. i think similar plots have been used in sitcoms before... just goes to show that the adage of there being only a finite number of genuinely original ideas really does have a certain ring of truth to it. everything being a variation on a theme Leaving the office the other day, one of my co-workers advised me to be careful crossing the street, to which i could only reply "Why, is Bishop O'Brien on the streets again?" Now i'm going to give a quick review of some vegetarian convenience foods, since i've been slowly drifting in that general direction for the last couple of years: ***1/2- Morningstar Farms brand Tomato-Basil burgers: nice taste, good texture makes for a good sandwich with a slice of fresh tomato and a slice of mozzarella or provolone cheese on wheat toast (i didn't say i was going vegan, i don't think i could quite manage that...too fond of the occasional taste of blood)
