A Black Feather, A poison pen... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yosemite Sam redux Another day. drift soundlessly through the cubes. Occasionally stop between tasks and make idle chatter with one of my usual time-killing accomplices. Frequently i am an interruption, but i'm handy with the jokes and the occasional useful bits of info, soas such i get away with it. Prairie-dogging up out of my cube to look over at the plaza through the big southeast-facing window on the other side of the room. Slight traces of breeze rattling flags but not really disturbing the trees. Feeling a strange sensation in my throat which i hope is not the recurrence of the illness that keeps recycling itself here in the office. Everyone eose seems to have had it two o rthree times now and i am content to have had it roughly twice, although the second time was not as cruel as the first. saw a black rabbit scurrying out of oneof the truck-yards over on the end of the block by the house last night. neighborhood kids tried to sneak up on it and catch it, but it made for the junkyard and hid. I would have been amused if there had been a dog in that yard, perverse urbanized microcosom of the food-chain in the forest. Strange too that most of the wild rabbits that run the streets around here are just typical, indistinct brown jackrabbits. kids think they're cute, but out in the streets they are just more vermin. a street rat with extra ear-length and a turbo-charged ass-end. easier for them to multiply deeper within the city as there aren't enough stray dogs or coyotes deep inside to keep them down. not a plague of rabbits, but more than one might expect. wonder if i could get some form of urban hunting permit.
