A Black Feather, A poison pen...

the scales of power and how they relate to a lowly bureaucrat

The precincts are mostly in and it appears that Janet Napolitano will likely beat Matt Salmon for the governor's office (a sigh of relief indeed)

unfortunately, most of the state legislature still seems to be dominated by the same motley band of religious fanatics and corporate whores who bend over for any lobbyist with a fat donation. if i could have voted in other districts i would have, but in my district the incumbent was the only choice (these two districts near my house don't have any republican presence of any significant voting power - yeah, you don't find a strong GOP support base in the barrios or in the projects, because for the most part we know that from an ideological standpoint, being an ethnic Republican with the party's values here would be like being a half-black, half-jewish Klansman -- they don't call this region of the country "The Southwest" for nothing... because it really is a lot like the old South, just further west)

yeah, i'm on my political horse tonight.

in the district where a couple of my sisters live, a hard-right wing-nut took the state representative seat against the hopes of the departing republican who gave the seat up to term limits (he is one of the few moderate voices of reason in this state's GOP contingent and should be at least a fairly competent new member of the state Senate if i remember correctly who he is)

the decent bit of news in the race for the 9th floor (governor's race) is that even though the republicans hold a 60-40 edge in this county in terms of registration overall (the most densely populated county in the state) Napolitano had a 2% lead over Salmon with the majority of the precincts from Maricopa county in and the big pockets of distinctly non-republican areas yet to be even counted (the Navajo and Hopi nations in the counties up by Four Corners and around the NAU areas, the Apache res and some of the other Native communities) so i think the trends are fairly solidly against The Fish (as i prefer to call him) making it into the driver's seat

but it will still be a close race
